OSTRICH FILLET
REVIEW
Like an odd one out, the Ostrich Fillet is a good sized portion of meat that resembles and tastes like rump steak in so many ways. It has good flavour but very stringy and quite tough and chewy at times but it’s not bad at all and has little or no fat at all. RATING 3/5
INGREDIENTS
Pre-cooked Portioned Fillet
ALLERGY INFORMATION
None
OSTRICH BURGER
REVIEW
Unlike the Ostrich fillet that had good flavour, its fellow burger version lacks in taste although and is very dry indeed. It’s hard to describe the taste but it tastes like a mix between wet cardboard and slightly going off meat. Probably the worst of the bunch. RATING 1/5
INGREDIENTS
Ostrich Meat(93%), Water, Wheat Flour, Maize Starch, Stabiliser: E170, Raising Agent: E503, Salt, Pepper
ALLERGY INFORMATION
Contains WHEAT
KANGAROO BURGER
REVIEW
This burger was the only meat to leave a lot of liquid after cooking but maybe that’s just because of the type of meat, but the Kangaroo has a nice full flavour straight away that tastes like a slightly spicy herby meat but then the aftertaste left in your mouth turns decidedly fishy and rank for some reason, not strong fishy aftertaste but a bit of one. RATING 4/5
INGREDIENTS
Kangaroo Meat(87%), Water, Pea Flour, Salt, Dehydrated Onion, Spices, Preservative(Sulphur Dioxide), Ascorbic Acid, Spice Extracts
ALLERGY INFORMATION
Contains SULPHUR DIOXIDE
CROCODILE BURGER
REVIEW
This is a very pale coloured meat that looks as if it were undercooked but once you dive in you get a rich German Sausage like taste that is probably the best of the bunch. One of our testers just straight out didn’t like it but generally it had thumbs up all round. RATING 4/5
INGREDIENTS
Crocodile Meat(87%), Water, Pea Flour, Potato Starch, Salt, Onion Powder, Flavouring, Dextrose, Natural Flavouring(Milk), Preservative(Sulphur Dioxide), E301, E331, Spice Extracts, Spice, E120
ALLERGY INFORMATION
Contains MILK and SULPHUR DIOXIDE
OVERALL REVIEW
Your first thought when you buy a pack of these Exotic Burgers is that you’ll probably only get a small percentage of the actual exotic meat in each burger but Iceland have put on the shelves(or in the freezers) a product that has a high percentage of the actual exotic meat content in each portion so fair play to Iceland.
These type of products are always going to be primarily bought as a novelty purchase and a bit of something different which is exactly what it is and for £10 its a great gamble because none of the meats were unedible(even including the Ostrich burger) and most were tasty so if you’re looking for something different to have then its a good alternative to your regular beef burger and gives you something interesting for your kids to Tweet about.
