Bapao Beef Steamed Bun Review
REVIEW
New to the Coop is this Bapao Beef Steamed Bun popular in Asia and made by a Dutch company. The pack states that the bun needs to be warmed in the foil for about 40 seconds but there is no foil so what they meant is just microwaved in the pack and that’s it.
As soon as you open the microwave you get a nice whiff of a mince beefburger smell. The bun is nice and warm and soft and measures around 10cm X 10cm and about 3cm thick. The bun is very soft and fluffy and as you bite in you get a sweet and savoury beef mince taste unlike anything you’ve tasted before. Its delicious in a weird way, there are combinations of flavours and textures banded together to make a strangely tasty and quite filling snack. When you first bite into it you think that the sweetness might put you off but then you get the savoury strong meaty and onion flavours that balance it out.
Overall I really enjoyed it, I’m glad I tried it and I will definitely buy it again especially at the £1 pound price point.

I like it very much and I wish we could have more these stuff in most supermarket!
It was a nice surprise and a kind of a shock to see bapao in the fridge of the Coop. I’m originally from Indonesia and miss certain food a lot. I tried beef and chicken and both were delicious yet the beef ones have my preference. They were not cheap at £1 each but it’s just a delicious treat. Thanks Coop.
Can you freeze them .
it is one of my favourite snacks when I was living in Holland… bring it to all supermarkets please!
This is a game changer! Best ever
I bought loads It was absolutely delicious I’m from the Philippines and like everyone I was so surprised to see this in coop. Please stock some more..
I am nervous about microwaving the packet without piercing it first. Will it explode?
My one made a crackling noise but it didn’t explode. I microwaved it for 40 seconds in a 1000w microwave.
When i showed my daughter the BAPAO she pulled her face, it was a different story when she tucked into it at work
she loved it as it was nice and hot plus flavoursome.
Do coop still sell these? I only knew of one that did and now they’ve stopped. Anyone know how i can get my hands on more of these?
I got one of these the other day to try something new, I loved it so much I ended up having a dream about them. Today I got more and I’m so happy! They’re so good, and 40 seconds in the microwave will not cause the bag to explode.
Love these.
I get mine from b&m usually the big home store one near my work. Only 89p.
Really nice. Didnt expect them to be. looks pale and uninteresting but its really soft and the sweet and then totally savoury centre is really nice. Nice quick snack
Where have they gone, cant get any where we live and we were buying them 10 at a time, come on coop, bring them back.
Sounds great , any chance of a review of the chicken satay one ?
Absolutely love, Not all co-operative food store sell then, only limited stores sell them.
Can they be frozen
It was a favourite of mine when I lived in the Netherlands over 20 years ago. I spotted these in the co-op near my parents house and more recently in my local co-op and the world seems a better place 🙂
I tried the beef Bapao!.. real good!..but I hope you change chicken curry to a plain one.
