Tilda Rice & Peas Review
Tilda are giving us a Caribbean ray of sunshine with its Limited Edition Rice & Peas or Rice & Beans as some of us call it. It certainly looks the part, just like my grandmothers but does it taste the part? First thing noticeable is that its quite moist which is always a good thing because the last thing you want is dry rice and peas and secondly there are proper Red Kidney beans and there’s a good amount included. There is a very low spice to it which is fine but the flavour just lacks that punch, its a bit bland by Caribbean standards and I’m not talking about spice, I’m talking about actual flavour. Its there, you can just feel it in the background, it just needs to be amplified so you can add your “fry plantin” and stew chicken(or curried goat) for a real island meal.
That being said, I hope they bring it back because I like the look of it and you can always had your own ingredients to it to beef it up, I’ve just fried some banana(hey it was the last minute, I couldn’t get any plantain near this office!) and had it with some of this rice and I enjoyed it. So there!
