The Rawlicious Food Co. Kale Chips Review
These Gluten Free and Vegan Kale Chips from the Rawlicious Food Co. caught my eye the other day at TKMaxx and I was intrigued by a combination of the colourful packaging and the desire to know what Kale Chips actually tasted like knowing full well that Kale itself is not the tastiest of veg….but one of the healthiest.
The pack was very thin so I was not entirely surprised to see the contents, or what was left of the contents, on a plate looking decidedly minute and very Autumnal looking with the dried leaves and speckles of Cashew nuts. There was a definite aroma, very earthy and slightly tea like. As I picked up a sample, I was not surprised by the crispiness but by the hardish cluster like texture that fuses numerous leaves together making it easier to pick up and eat. The initial flavour is of a raw tea and toasted nut like flavour, mixed in with a familiar Kale taste then followed by a bitterish taste resembling swallowing the contents of an ashtray before the pepper spice kicks in before taking you down to a medium fiery and earthy kale aftertaste.
lets be honest here, its not a tasty treat by any means so then you assume its a healthy alternative to a greasy snack. But then, delving further into the Nutrition, you will notice that it contains more Fat and Salt content than many standard packs of crisps. How can that be for such a healthy core ingredient that is baked? So what is the Unique Selling Point, what is the end goal for the consumer to pick this product over anything else? The price at £2.00? The Kale as a core ingredient? The Healthiness? I just don’t know.
