McCain Shake Shake Fries Review
Remember the old fashioned shake in your own salt crisps, well now we have from McCains’ the shake in a bag fries. For about £2 you get a decent portion of thin fries(actually it now doesn’t look as much now that its in the plate as in the pic above[all the pack]) and contained under the cardboard wrapping is a sachet of colourful sea salt and black pepper seasoning which you add to the bag and shake before putting in the oven for 15 minutes.
They come out not too crispy at 15 minutes and a little bit soggy, but OK, and the potato inside is of a decent texture and consistency. The flavours that you get straight away are almost cheesy(but theyre not) and are almost like they have a dash of vinegar on them which they don’t but it kind of tastes like they do, you get a bit of the salt, not as salty as McDonalds fries, but mostly its the potato and black pepper flavours that you get before the crushed peppercorn from the black pepper gives you a little extra flavouring.
Overall they are quite enjoyable and after sharing them out there is a decent amount actually as I originally thought. The flavours are subtle and not too overwhelming letting you enjoy the base of the fry and the quality is OK, there were a few fries with blackheads. I probably would have left them in for a few more minutes to get a bit crispier but to each his own. Pricewise, when you consider that 99p gets you a portion in fast food restaurants, £2 might be fair to have the convenience in your home and for the amount in the bag. Generally they are a nice bit of fun, good for summer parties or birthdays at home and worth a try.
