Mor Gluten Free Sausages Review
Spotted in Tesco’s recently were these Mor Sausages that looked quite appealing and I didn’t find out until back in the office that they were also Gluten Free. I didn’t spot the smaller than small Gluten Free label in the top right corner because it is so small, it always puzzles me why companies do this because its an added bonus to many customers in this growing Gluten Free sector.
There are 6 pork sausages in all and filled with a lot of veg including lentils, peas, spinach and asparagus. They measure up to approx. 9cm X 3cm when cooked and are soft to the bite almost leaving you with a hollow skin but are packed with ingredients. Straight away you get an unfamiliar and sort of familiar taste fusion. You do definitely get a veggie green like taste, a bit of pork and a sweet flavour with a hint of spice from the sweet chilli relish that is found inside. The strapline of this brand of sausages is “Mor Taste, Mor Goodness” and while I do agree, I disagree as well. There are some good flavours coming out of this sausage, quite an eclectic mix that can take time to getting used to but at the same time there is no punch of flavour that you get with many sausages, there is no bang!
To test the strength of taste of a sausage I usually carry out whats called the Burrito Test. Its the act of cutting up a sausage and a half and throwing it in a large tortilla with fried red kidney beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato, sauces, mushrooms, onions etc… and if you can still taste some of that sausage in every bit then you know its strong. This one kind of failed, not surprisingly, but I kind of figured that anyways because like I said there is no ooomph of strong flavours from this sausage. But having said that, its definitely growing on me, I like that little bit of sweetness in every bite, I’m liking that fresh veggie flavours and although the pork is not as strong as in pure pork sausages…I’m OK with that.
